Western Meadowlark

The bright yellow belly, and distinctive black triangle on the Western Meadowlark make it one of the most well known prairie bird species.  The call of the Western Meadowlark is a jumble of flute-like notes, usually descending in scale.  While the meadowlark does eat seed and grain, two thirds of its diet is comprised of insects, spiders, and occasionally carrion.
