This male Mississippi Kite was found in Portales, New Mexico, and was taken to Wildlife Center in fall of 1999 for rehabilitation. He has a broken wing from an unknown cause. Because he was found alongside a road, we believe that he was hit by a car. Once he was determined to be non-releasable in fall 2000, he was transferred to Hawks Aloft for glove training. He suffers from recurrent nasal infections, but with the help of our veterinarians, this problem is manageable. This species is unusual in captivity, and introduces students to a type of raptor that few people know about. He is very calm and occasionally vocalizes during presentations. |
